Hunger Banquet

Hunger BanquetJoin us for an interactive, two-hour event, as we come together to help each other and our children understand the issues of hunger in a unique and meaningful way.

You may think hunger is about
too many people
and too little food.

That is not the case.

What? How can that be?

At a Hunger Banquet, the place where you sit, and the meal you eat, are determined by the luck of the draw—just as in real life some of us are born into relative prosperity and others into poverty.

You MAY end your afternoon feeling hungry, or you MAY end feeling quite full.
Either way, the emotions you will feel will change your world.

Where: The New Berlin, WI Public Library 15105 W. Library Lane, New Berlin

When: Sunday, October 4, 2015 1:45 pm-3:45 pm

Cost: $10 per person which will be donated to ALDEA, an organization working to reduce chronic childhood malnutrition in Guatemalan Mayan Guatemalacommunities. Guatemala has the fourth highest rate of chronic malnutrition in the world. (Donations are tax deductible.)

Important: The woman and child pictured do not have the gaunt look of starving people. The reality is Mayan families live on a staple of tortillas served with salt, and Coca Cola, which is heavily marketed to them.

They do not have a
shortage of calories,
but there is
no nutrition in their food source.

The “face of hunger” has changed dramatically.
And that’s only part of the problem.

Come, share the experience, understand hunger at a deeper level,
join in discussion, and leave changed!

This is a problem where we can all have impact.
And a wonderfully “teachable moment” for kids of all ages!
